THE ROLE

As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, SLS has identified the need to develop future leaders in its the area of business and operations. We are looking for a highly competent and motivated Business or Operations Graduate to be part of a high-performance team joining our 2-year Graduate Programme and who is flexible and open to relocation if required. You will be a key part of our Lifecycle Services Division initially based at our sites in Tennessee and then moved to our sites in Illinois.

In this role you will be exposed to and will participate fully in a broad range of activities to provide real business experience, quantifiable business benefits and the opportunity for a challenging and rewarding career within Sims Limited, and more specifically within the Lifecycle Services Division. At the end of the 24-month programme, you will be fully equipped to take on their first permanent role within the Division with a host of opportunities across several functions.

Your personal and professional development will be supported by the Discovery Aspiring Leaders programme providing you with a blended approach to learning through experiential workshops, online learning forums and an experienced coach.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Following an initial induction period, you will follow a uniquely tailored, but structured program incorporating a series of rotations establishing yourself in key departments, developing a strong understanding of its need within the business and complete a study/project to demonstrate your new knowledge. 

Closely supported by your assigned Mentor and Coach, you will be involved in hands on learning and complete a number of rotations and be exposed to a number of roles, projects and sites including the following:

Roles:

  • Associate,
    • Team Leads
      • Operations Supervisor
      • Process Engineer

Projects

  • ITAD
  • Google
  • Quality
  • Ink Plant
  • Engineering projects
  • Building transformation

Locations:

  • Tennessee (3 -4 sites)
    • Illinois (3 sites)

At the 21-month mark, you will have a full review with your manager to discuss your ongoing potential future and transition into a full-time position at Sims after the completion of your 2-year graduate program.

THE INDIVIDUAL

We are looking for a driven and ambitious Graduate to join our team. We are particularly looking for graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Mechatronics or an equivalent combination of education and experience, who are practical and data oriented. To be successful you will:

  • Be flexible and open to travel and relocation
  • Have an inquisitive, innovative, and forward-thinking mindset, who is always looking to learn and develop
  • Advanced MS Office Suite skills including Excel and PowerPoint
  • AutoCAD proficiency
  • Practical and hands-on, able to handle multiple tasks and prioritise accordingly
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude, and an ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical processes
  • Able to read engineering documents, drawings and schematics
  • Be able to implement structured problem-solving and continuous improvement projects
  • Analytical and accurate – confident and competent at managing large data sets
  • Possess the ability to communicate confidently and effectively across all levels of the business both verbally and in the written word
  • Have excellent presentation skills
  • Be able to demonstrate effective leadership skills
  • Be confident in building effective working relationships and working as part of a team
  • Be able to pick up and deliver projects using a structured and well-organised approach, with the ability to work unsupervised
  • Have a flexible approach and responsible attitude to work and driving development
  • A full driving licence is essential 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is normally performed in an office work environment with occasional exposure in warehouse, some of which may not be climate-controlled, with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and heat, humidity, and other weather conditions
    • Typical use of office equipment
    • Long periods of sitting, standing, and walking
    • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs, fitted dust mask, where required
    • Work schedule may be adjusted as business needs dictate
    • Must be able to take on new assignments as needed regardless of existing workload
    • Must be able to work under deadlines and related stresses in a timely manner

Must be able to handle interpersonal situations in a professional manner
